Rarely are we courageous enough to admit that our sin problem has landed us in a situation that is worse than we think. We rely on all manner of political correctness and spin to avoid being labeled the sinner we are. To the extent we apprehend our sinfulness, to that same extent we celebrate what we have been rescued from by faith in Jesus Christ. Romans 3 clearly makes the case that no one is righteous or justified by their righteous works. That is the beginning point of finding true joy in the gospel.
