Remembering that godliness has value in this life and the next (see 1 Timothy 4:8), we learn in this passage that contentment focuses us and our desires on pursuing the right things. Contentment, wanting what you already have, is in short supply in America. Lack of contentment, is both a cause of depression and the reason many are led away from the faith (see verse 10). Godliness has value forever and for our faith as well.
