At the center of Christianity is the cross.  At the cross, Jesus refuses comfort and he refuses to come down until our sin is paid for.  At the cross, Jesus accepts God the Father's wrath in full--wrath that was due for us.  He also accepts us at the cross.  The cross enables Christians to have a relationship with God, without it there is no hope.
