The key verse for the Gospel of Mark is Mark 10:45, "For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.  Serving is what the Christian life is about.  Jesus shows his disciples here that through the ransom he offers he frees us to serve.  What type of service do we engage in?  Service that involves suffering and service that is without status.
