A rich man asks Jesus how to secure eternal life.  Jesus directs him, and us, to give up whatever stands between us and God.   Even though this man does not follow Jesus, Jesus loves him.  Jesus loves the self-righteous, he loves the self-sufficient, and he loves the self-sacrificing.  His love can drive us right out of our idolatry and into loving and following the Savior.
