The worship of idols is much more subtle than the worship of statues.  We are confronted with idols of our heart which steal worship away from the one, true, and living God.  What are we to do?  We must only worship God because there is no one like him and because idols will not deliver us.  Of course, we need the Holy Spirit to make us realize the error of our ways, when other things become too important to us and have a controling influence on our lives.
