Titus 2:1-6 Teaching the Generations
Titus receives instructions in these verses to further safeguard consistency between belief and behavior. There are commands for older men, older women, younger women, and younger men. Self-control is mentioned or implied in each of these groups. Through obeying these commands and seeing godly behavior manifested in the church community, each generation has a contribution to kingdom living.

Titus 1:10-16, The Big Hat No Cattle Christian
For the Christian, our walk and our talk should be consistent. If someone professes to be a Christian, the evidence of their faith is a life transformed by the gospel (see James 2:14). Paul encourages Titus in this passage to take on those who talk it but don't walk it. There are two types of errors mentioned here: those who religiously err and those who fit the description of Cretans being liars, evil beasts, and lazy gluttons (vs. 12). Paul advises silencing, rebuking, and living a life joyously empowered by the Savior to protect the church.

Titus 1:5-9, Leadership Matters
Because the church is the Bride of Christ, we can ask for the total package when it comes to leadership. This means the home life, heart, and a willingness to hold firm to the truth. No elder or leader in the church is perfect, but a heart for repentance shows that the gospel has taken root in a person's life. It would be hypocritical to hold others to a standard we are notwilling to keep, so this description of elders in the church applies in a general way to all Christians.

In the opening verses of Titus, Paul begins with a knowledge about who he is and moves to his knowledge of who God is. Who we are and who God is helps form our Christian calling.

The Best Dissertation is a Done Dissertation
I recently completed my dissertation for a Doctor of Ministry degree. I'm so thankful for my wife's love and support during this process which started in May 2005. I could not have done it without her standing by me! My kids have been supportive and understanding, especially during all those times I was traveling to attend classes, reading, or writing instead of playing with them. The members of Trinity have been a huge help as many prayed me through the deep academic waters.
The project focused on longevity in ministry and how pastors could mitigate stress and burn-out through physical self-care practices.
